VIENTIANE, Laos: Five people who were trapped inside a cave in Laos for about a week were found alive on May 27.
Rescue teams from Laos and Thailand are still searching for two more people, according to Thai volunteers.
The head of the Thai rescue team said that by 4:30 p.m., five people had been found, and the search for the remaining two would continue.
Another rescuer shared a video online showing the group cheering. They looked happy and relieved, smiling and raising their hands.
The seven Lao men entered the cave in Xaisomboun province last week to look for gold. Heavy rain and a landslide then blocked the way out, trapping them inside.
A Thai volunteer rescue team joined the operation on May 24. One of the team members had also helped in the famous 2018 rescue of 12 boys and their football coach from a flooded cave in northern Thailand, which gained worldwide attention and involved international help.
