Two-time All-Star outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, who has played in just eight games since the end of the 2018 season, has every intention of playing again in 2021.
He just needs to find a team in need of his services.
A veteran of eight seasons, the 35-year-old will put his talents on display in a March 2 showcase, The Athletic reported. Scouts from all major league teams will be invited.
A native of Cuba, Cespedes has a .273 career batting average over 834 games with the Oakland Athletics (2012-14), Boston Red Sox (2014), Detroit Tigers (2015) and New York Mets (2016-18, 2020). He has 165 home runs and 528 RBIs, making the American League All-Star team in 2014 and the National League team in 2016. He also won a Gold Glove in left field in 2015.
He has been plagued by injuries in the latter part of his career, playing just 38 games in 2018 because of issues to both heels that required surgery. Before he could return to action in the 2019 season, he fractured his right ankle in an accident on his ranch.
He did start the delayed 2020 season with the Mets, but opted out of the remainder of the season after eight games because of COVID-19 concerns.
In five seasons with the Mets, Cespedes played in just 316 games, less than his total number of games in two-plus seasons with the A's. He did hit 76 home runs with 205 RBIs for the Mets after hitting 66 home runs with 229 RBIs with Oakland.
