Taiwan-born American astronaut Kjell Lindgren will serve as the commander of the "Crew Dragon" spacecraft in 2022 and fly to theInternational Space Station. This is his second space trip.
Washington, DC (Merxwire) - NASA announced on February 12 that 48-year-old Kjell Lindgren and 46-year-old Bob Hines will perform the mission to and from the International Space Station in 2022 as spacecraft commander and pilot, respectively. For the International Space Station mission, they will board the spacecraft "Crew Dragon" built by SpaceX to enter the low-Earth orbit and the space station.
The "Crew Dragon" spacecraft was manufactured by SpaceX, founded by billionaire Elon Musk, and successfully manned to the International Space Station twice in 2020. Kjell Lindgren and his colleagues will perform the fourth manned mission of Crew Dragon. Falcon 9 rocket from Launch Complex 39A at NASA's Kennedy Space Center in Florida.
According to NASA, this is Kjell Lindgren's second space trip. He spent 141 days on the space station in 2015, sharing photos from space with the world.
Kjell Lindgren is a member of the U.S. Air Force family and was born in Taipei, his father is Swedish-American, and his mother is Taiwanese. He once moved to the United Kingdom and finally to the United States, and has a bachelor's degree in biology from the U.S. Air Force Academy, a master's degree in cardiovascular physiology from Colorado State University, and a medical degree from the University of Colorado.
The mission of Kjell Lindgren's last space station mission was for scientific research. Unlike the previous mission, the mission of 2022 is one of the projects of the Commercial Crew Program that NASA cooperates with private companies to prepare for the future space travel of mankind.
As private companies focus on the development of the Commercial Crew Program, NASA has also been able to focus on longer-distance space missions, building spacecraft & rockets that land on the Moon and Mars.
