According to the AA auto association, Ireland is now one of the most expensive countries in the world for petrol and diesel.
In the past year, fuel prices in Ireland have increased 33 percent, placing pressure on the government to reduce fuel taxes.

At this time in 2021, the average price of petrol stood at $1.29, and $1.20 for diesel.
The increase in petrol prices in the past 12 months has jumped 31 percent, and 33 percent for diesel.
Currently, Ireland's fuel prices are near the highest levels ever recorded in the country.
Ireland is currently the 17th most expensive country in the world for fuel. Those higher include Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Israel, Norway, Finland, Denmark, the UK, Greece, Iceland and Sweden.
Anna Cullen of Ireland AA said two-thirds of the price consumers pay at the pumps are taxes, including Vat and carbon tax.
"And, keep in mind it can take two weeks for any reductions to reach the pumps," she told independent.ie.
Prices for fuel in Ireland have jumped due to world crude oil prices reaching seven-year highs last week, along with tight worldwide supplies and renewed global demand.
